Damian Dudkiewicz

I'm a Polish-British actor based in London, working in English and Polish.

My journey into acting began with movement, mime and physical theatre. I was fascinated by the possibilities of the human body — its ability to tell stories, express emotions, create characters and make people laugh without saying a single word.

My early artistic foundations were shaped by the Polish tradition of physical theatre, particularly the work of Henryk Tomaszewski, which I explored through his students and my time with Wrocław Mime Theatre. Later, studying with Graham Dixon at the Michael Chekhov Studio London, I continued exploring the relationship between imagination, movement and the inner life of a character.

Over the past twenty years, I've worked across theatre, opera, film and television in Poland, the UK and internationally.

One of the most memorable experiences of my career was working with Terry Gilliam on his opera productions The Damnation of Faust (choreographed by Leah Hausman) and Benvenuto Cellini (co-directed and choreographed by Leah Hausman). I loved Terry's extraordinary imagination, his humanity and the wonderful madness of the worlds he created. Performing in these productions across Europe, exploring so many different characters and becoming part of something larger than any individual performance, was an unforgettable experience.

Alongside my work in theatre and opera, I've appeared in film and television productions including American Assassin, Hurricane, Pilecki's Report, Whitechapel, The Mimic and King Gary.

I've always loved physical comedy, unusual characters and the unexpected possibilities of the absurd. But I'm equally drawn to quieter, more complex roles — to ordinary and extraordinary people, their contradictions, vulnerability, humour and humanity. I love the intimacy of acting for the camera, where sometimes the smallest gesture or a moment of stillness can reveal an entire inner world.

In recent years, my curiosity about the relationship between the body, trauma and creativity led me to deepen my studies in somatic approaches. I also began working with actors and other artists, supporting them in exploring creative blocks and finding a more authentic expression of themselves.

This exploration has brought a new dimension to my own acting. I've become increasingly interested in presence, embodiment and the ways a character can emerge through imagination, movement, costume, atmosphere and our relationships with others.

For me, acting is a collaborative art. I love bringing my imagination and experience into the service of a story, while remaining open to the unexpected discoveries that happen when people create something together.

Perhaps that's what I love most about acting — the possibility of discovering something I didn't know was there.
